My experience in adult learning and education
Sonja Belete is an adult education and development expert and trainer with more than 30 years’ experience in the fields of adult education, sustainable livelihoods, women’s economic empowerment, good governance and systems building. She holds an MA degree in Adult Education and has authored several manuals, guidelines and articles, the latest a series of booklets on building sustainable Adult Learning and Education Systems across sectors and spheres of governance (ALESBA). Her career with international NGOS such as DVV International, ActionAid, CARE and also the UN provided her extensive exposure to Southern and the East/Horn of Africa, with occasional support missions to West and North Africa. She has managed large scale programmes at micro, meso and macro levels, including piloting and up-scaling CLCs in Africa. She has worked as an independent consultant for different international organisations in Africa, and is currently Regional Director of DVV International for South Asia and Afghanistan.
