My experience in adult learning and education
Experience based on learners needs as they come to literacy classes. Learners life experience and the need to be in class helps me to prepare well on what to teach. I prepare the lesson plans and try to accommodate them fully in the class. As a teacher, I try to motivate them and give them hope to believe in themselves.cI encourage them to be vigilant and all is possible with God.
I try to build their self esteem by allowing them to socialise well in class, to feel free and also respecting their views. I use words of appreciation that makes them feel warmth and importance. I value and recognise their status in the community.
In class you have community leaders, Pastors, group leaders, etc, Valuing their status motivates them a lot and makes them to come to class. Apart from learning I also value the different skills they have and are using in their communities.They have skills in soap making, cooking, gardening, bead work, entrepreneurship, etc.
Personally I have gained a lot interest in teaching them because I too learn a lot from them. They bless me in many ways. They are my friends and each time I enjoy being with them more and more. I feel great and happy when I see their lives changing. The confidence they are building. Their living standards improving and participating more in society.
