On 16th – 18th septembre 2025 the Workshop titeled “Strengthening National Capacities for Monitoring Adult Learning and Education” took place in Rabat, Morocco. The Workshop has been jointly organised by UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL) and the African Foundation for Lifelong Learning (FA-ATLV),

During the rountatbele discussions representatives of 15 african countries shared updates on current state in the sector of Adult Learning and Education in their respective countries. Key challenges included common understanding of ALE among diverse actors, limited resources for ALE, the absence of a clear regulatory framework, insufficient dialogue among public stakeholders, and the need for stronger involvement of civil society organizations. Particular attention was given to the importence of promoting literacy in local and indigenous languages.

A representative from DVV International participated in the roundtable on the first day, presenting the organization’s perspective and reaffirming its commitment to support capacity building for the upcoming GRALE 6 report. He emphasized the importance of civil society engagement in shaping ALE policies and introduced the MOJA platform, an online space for ALE professionals across Africa.

In the frame of the workshop a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL) and the African Foundation for Lifelong Learning (FA-ATLV) on 16th September 2025. This marked a significant step towards enhanced collaboration in Adult Learning and Education across Africa.
