Watershed Project Mali Reflect

This short film highlights the inspiring and innovative work carried out by the beneficiaries of the project "Income-generating environmental services in watersheds for the promotion of small-scale irrigation systems in three municipalities in the Koulikoro and Dioila regions" implemented by DVV International with funding from GIZ.

In three Malian beneficiary municipalities in the Koulikoro and Dioila regions, 180 participants (80 of whom are women) undergo 30 days of training in different environmental solutions addressing the specific needs of the local environment, using the functional REFLECT approach. They are then temporarily employed and paid for 120 days to collectively carry out activities based on the solutions and services discussed during training. The agroecological activities include:

  1. Sustainable land management and landscape restoration (reforestation, stone barriers, composting, and riverbank protection)
  2. The recovery of degraded land through land protection, fallow techniques[i], and the installation of dead and live hedges[ii]
  3. Local recovery of agricultural waste
  4. The production and use of botanical biopesticides[iii] for crop treatment
  5. Agri-food processing (local products)
  6. Community participation in natural resource management and conflict resolution.

Realized in the Koulikoroni site, in the commune of Bossofala, during the capitalization mission of the project coordinator, the film disseminates good practices in terms of environmental solutions to be implemented to protect the environment and boost agricultural production and productivity in the said area.
