My experience in adult learning and education
My background in adult learning and education is primarily rooted in my role as a Digital Literacies Librarian at the University of the Western Cape. In this capacity, I focus on equipping staff and students with critical digital and information literacy skills necessary for the 21st-century information environment. My responsibilities include creating and delivering tutorials, workshops, and resources that promote independent and creative thinking. My journey in adult education also encompasses my previous role as the Primary Education Programme & Projects Manager at GADRA Educational Welfare (NGO). Here, I dedicated myself to supporting underprivileged schools by organising literacy and numeracy clubs and facilitating professional development for teachers. Additionally, I have extensive experience teaching various subjects, including Accounting, Business Studies, and Computer Applications Technology, at the high school level. I also lectured part-time at Rhodes University on educational studies and teaching practice modules. This diverse teaching background has given me a unique perspective on the educational needs and learning styles of adult learners. Currently, I am pursuing a Master’s degree in Adult Learning and Global Change, furthering my commitment to understanding and addressing the complexities of adult education in a global context. My work is deeply influenced by the principles of lifelong learning and the transformative power of education.
