My experience in adult learning and education

Somali people are mainly pastoral and move frequently from place to place searching for a living and foraging for water for themselves and their animals. Because of this mobility, it is difficult for many Somali communities to attend basic formal education. In response to these challenges, the Somali regional state and other regions of Ethiopia such as Afar, Oromia and SNNP launched the basic alternative learning and adult education programme. Since these programmes were adopted, many people who didn't get the opportunity to attend formal education have benefited - adults and children. Over the years, the Somali region has had huge success in expanding adult education. This has opened another door of opportunity for people. A lot of them go on to enrol in TVET and other programmes.
