Regional Adult Learning and Education Workshop in Rabat Marks Milestone with UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning – African Foundation for Lifelong Learning Partnership
Morocco
On 16–18 September, a Workshop on “Strengthening National Capacities for Monitoring Adult Learning and Education” took place in Rabat, Morocco. The Workshop was jointly organised by UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL) and the African Foundation for Lifelong Learning (FA-ATLV),
During the roundtable discussions, representatives of 15 African countries shared updates on the current state in the sector of Adult Learning and Education in their respective countries. Key challenges included common understanding of ALE among diverse actors, limited resources for ALE, the absence of a clear regulatory framework, insufficient dialogue among public stakeholders, and the need for stronger involvement of civil society organizations. Particular attention was given to the importance of promoting literacy in local and indigenous languages.
A representative from DVV International participated in the roundtable on the first day, Mr. Nazeret Nazeretyan (Regional Director for Northern Africa), presenting the organisation’s perspective and reaffirming its commitment to supporting capacity building for the upcoming GRALE 6 report. He emphasised the importance of civil society engagement in shaping ALE policies and introduced the MOJA platform, an online space for ALE professionals across Africa.
In the frame of the workshop, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL) and the African Foundation for Lifelong Learning (FA-ATLV) - on 16 September. This marked a significant step towards enhanced collaboration in Adult Learning and Education across Africa.
