Cape Town, South Africa. October 30-31. Participants from 16 African countries gathered in Cape Town for a two-day conference on adult learning and education (ALE). Under the title ‘Adult Education for a Just Transition: ALE as a key to community development”, adult education practitioners came together to discuss the state of ALE on the continent and to share and exchange experiences from their regions and national contexts.

The event explored the multi-sectoral nature of ALE and its importance as a crucial component of development in all sectors. Participants also gave inputs on some of the ALE topics that resonated most in their regions.

The event was also an opportunity to discuss possibilities for a common advocacy platform for ALE in Africa, fostering and promoting increased cooperation and exchange between ALE practitioners form across the continent.

There was an overwhelmingly positive response from delegates to continue the work started in Cape Town to help strengthen cooperation for ALE in Africa.

The event was organised by DVV International through MOJA and the African Continental project, with financial assistance from The German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
