Two (02) new regional networks of literacy and non-formal education (NFE) stakeholders have been set up in Togo.

Literacy and non-formal education stakeholders have formed networks in two new regions of Togo in order to better advocate for the sub-sector with political decision-makers and development partners.

DVV International's involvement in the promotion of NFE in Togo has led actors in the sub-sector to organise themselves into networks in order to make their voices heard effectively by the relevant authorities and partners, so that this sub-sector is taken into account in development strategies at local, regional and national level.

In 2023, two networks of AENF actors were set up in the regions of Kara and Grand Lomé and began their advocacy work. With the aim of achieving national coverage of these advocacy actions, civil society organisations (CSOs) in the NEFA sub-sector in the Central and Plateaux regions agreed to form networks to better coordinate their advocacy actions with decision-makers.

In the Central region, networks and groupings of NEFA actors already exist and operate on the territory. To pool their efforts and speak with one voice, they have agreed to set up a consortium called the Consortium d'Alphabétisation et d'Education Non-formelle (COAENF-RC). This consortium, which brings together 13 CSOs working in the field of NFE, came into being at its constituent general meeting held on 15 May 2024 in Sokodé, the capital of the Central Region. At the end of the meeting, a five-member executive committee was set up, including a president and a secretary general.

In the Plateaux region, the actors have instead formed a network of operators for the promotion of NEFA in the Plateaux region, abbreviated as ‘ROPAENFP’. This network, made up of 14 CSOs working in the field of NEFA, was also set up at its constituent general assembly held on 17 May 2024 in Atakpamé, the capital of the Plateaux region. The constitutive general assembly was opened by the Prefect of Ogou, Mr Edoh AKAKPO.

DVV-International, a strategic partner of the Togolese government in the field of Adult Learning and Education (ALE), is committed to supporting these and other networks in their lobbying of political authorities and partners at local, regional and national level.
